The GorillaPod

So what is a GorillaPod and what can it do for me you might ask.

GorillaPod's are handy tools to have where you aren't allowed to setup a conventional tripod or you cannot get it into position. As you can see in the pictures below you can bend the legs of the GorillaPod to wrap it around object like lampposts, railings and just about anything. I have also been known to use it to hold my flashgun in close and hard to get spaces.

I had bought the GorillaPod and was eager to try it out the first time, so I took a stroll down the River Liffey in Dublin. I wanted to capture a good cityscape with smooth water which I thought would be the perfect test for the GorillaPod.

With the GorillaPod and camera firmly attached to the railing, I took several shots ranging from 8 sec @ f/16 up to 25 sec exposure to smooth out the ripples in the water, and create some streaky clouds while keeping the scene in sharp focus. To add add a starburst effect of lights, an aperture of f/16 and above will get you this with a long exposure.
